STEPS
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place squash, cut-sides down, in a 9x13-inch baking dish, and pour 2 cups of water around the squash halves.
Bake in the preheated oven until tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 90 minutes. Add more water as needed during cooking.
Remove from the oven and transfer each squash half to a plate, cut-side up.
Top each half with butter, season with salt and black pepper, and serve.
