Slice the sweet potato into 1cm rounds, then halve or quarter them depending on size. Soak in water briefly, drain, and microwave in a heatproof container for 4 minutes at 600W until soft. Drain excess water. Cut garlic in half lengthwise, remove the core, and crush with the flat side of a knife.

Remove the vein from the peeled shrimp, rinse with water, and pat dry.

Heat olive oil, garlic, salt, and chili in a pot over low heat until fragrant. Add shrimp and sweet potato, then cook over medium heat until the shrimp changes color.
