INGREDIENTS
Vegetables
- 🥦 1 bunch broccoli, cut into florets
Oils and Sauces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 🌰 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons Asian-style chili paste
- 2 teaspoons maple syrup
Spices and Seasonings
- 🧂 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Add-ons
- 🧄 3 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
STEPS
Set oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat broiler. Place a steamer basket in a large saucepan. Add water just below the steamer basket and bring to a boil. Add broccoli to the steamer basket, reduce heat to medium-low, and steam, covered, until crisp-tender, about 240 seconds.
When cool enough to handle, spread steamed broccoli on a 10x15-inch rimmed baking sheet. Using the bottom of a sturdy glass, flatten broccoli florets to 1/2-inch thickness. Drizzle with vegetable oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and toss to coat.
Broil broccoli until charred around edges, about 360 seconds.
While broccoli is broiling, stir together chili paste, garlic, maple syrup, and sesame oil in a small bowl.
Spoon the prepared chili sauce over the broiled broccoli and sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
