Simple Braised Tofu with Optional Radish

  • Main Ingredients

    • 1.5 blocks tofu
    • đź§… 1/2 onion
    • đź§… A small amount of green onion
    • 1/3 radish
    • 1 chili
  • Seasonings

    • 100ml soy sauce
    • 200ml water
    • đź§„ 1 tsp minced garlic
    • 1 tbsp sesame oil
    • 1-2 tbsp chili powder
    • 🍬 1 tbsp sugar

Pan-fry the tofu until golden brown. This step is optional but recommended to prevent the tofu from becoming too soft during braising.

Cut the radish into bite-sized pieces. If skipping radish, increase the tofu quantity.

Chop the onion, green onion, and chili while the tofu is frying.

Mix the seasoning ingredients: 200ml water, 100ml soy sauce, 1-2 tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 chili, and 1 tbsp sugar.

Pour half of the seasoning mixture over the radish. Skip this step if not using radish.

Place the fried tofu in a pot.

Add the chopped onion and green onion on top of the tofu, then pour the remaining seasoning mixture over everything.

Cover the pot and cook on high heat for 10 minutes, then reduce to medium heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat once the sauce has reduced significantly.
