Trim the ends of the shiitake mushroom stems slightly. Separate the caps and stems, then cut the stems in half lengthwise.

Cut the butter into 4 equal pieces.

Place the mushroom stems and caps (with the inner side facing up) on a sheet of aluminum foil. Add one piece of butter on each cap and drizzle soy sauce over the mushrooms. Wrap the foil tightly.

Bake in a toaster oven for 6–8 minutes until the mushrooms become tender.
